Butoh Dance Workshop
September 28, 2008; 1:00–5:00 pm
This class will begin with exercises
to develop body awareness, elasticity, balance and power. Internal,
physical research, image-based improvisations and simple choreography
will be explored individually and in groups.
Jesus Soberon is a dancer and choreographer
based in Spain. He has performed solo works in Barcelona, Madrid,
Bilbao and northern Germany. He is a member of Ten-pen-chii Art
Labor, the German butoh dance company led by Yumiko Yoshioka.
Jesus is living at the Zen Community
of Oak Park for the month of September. He will do a surprise
butoh performance some time during the workday on Saturday, Sept.
27th. Everyone is invited to join in helping to complete the
Japanese Garden on this day, and if you are lucky, you might
be here, when Jesus performs. Those who saw him perform abutoh
dance for the nearly completed hula mound will not forget it.

Inner Disarmament: the art of pro-active
integral communication
November 14–16, 2008
(Friday night 7:00-9:00 pm, Sat. 9:00 am –
4:00 pm, Sun. 10 am - 3:00 pm)
This workshop will teach you specific
language patterns for building and nurturing trust in relationships
and groups. The class material is accompanied by many hands-on
role-plays that are surprisingly tranformative. The integration
of integral, universal truths with practical communication skills
will give you more confidence in working with conflicts and difficult
people.
Robert Althouse has been teaching
this workshop since shortly after 9/11, helping people learn
how to work more skillfully with conflict and difficult people.
- Learn pro-active communication skills
- Transform conflicts without fear
- Let go of destructive judgments
- Learn the power and depth of simple listening
Cost: $175/non-members $225

"This course opened my eyes, yet again, to the power of skillful
language and listening in understanding and being understood.
It is not about expressing ourselves and 'word technique' - it's
about listening for unmet needs in others - often difficult when
emotions cloud communication.
Anyone seeking better, clearer, more empathic and more authentic
communication should check this out. The list of feelings and
needs is surprisingly useful and I keep it close for those moments
when I'm having trouble connecting. With practice, this technique
is powerful.
Robert Joshin Althouse brings life experience, humor, honesty
and a gentle directness to teaching this 'language of compassion.'"
